Report of Wedding 1937

Bain - Russell

On the afternoon of July 24, the Milburn Presbyterian Church was filled with friends and well-wishers on the occasion of the wedding of Veda, youngest daughter of Mr Thomas H. Russell, and Lester James, second son of Mr and Mrs F. E. Bain, of Priory avenue, Chingford, London. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. S. T. Nicholls, and Mrs Neville Waugh, cousin of the bride, was organist.

The bride wore a long, graceful frock of ivory velvet, and carried in her arms a sheaf of arum lilies.

She was attended as bridesmaid by Miss Alice Stewart, wearing a gown of Wallis blue velvet with Medici collar and cap of silver tissue, and carrying a cascade of spring flowers. Two dainty little flower girls, Ruth Russell, niece of the bride, and Ruth Nicholls, also attended, dressed in short frocks of primrose taffeta, with wreaths of primroses and forget-me-nots in their hair. They carried baskets of spring flowers. Mr Russell Fleming attended the bridegroom as best man. During the signing of the register, Mrs W. T. Anderson sang the solo "Oh, Perfect Love."

After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride, " Lime Kiln Farm," where Mr Russell, assisted by his daughter, Mrs James Read, received the guests. The wedding breakfast was served in the drawing room, where two large wedding cakes decked the tables, one of which was decorated with the English oak and the New Zealand fern, and was a gift from friends of the bridegroom on the Arawa.

Later in the day the happy couple left by car for their honeymoon, the bride wearing a suit of green angora. Mr and Mrs Lester Bain will make their home in London.
