However, Richard may also have been in the army as a young man - on George's baptism record his father is a Private in the 22nd Regt of Foot [can find no service records for him].

He obviously left the army early for some reason - seriously unsuitable, badly wounded ??? He was a Cordwainer in 1811, and a Cordwainer again in 1817, so didn't serve a full term or even a 7 year half term.

Strangely, the Jane and Sussanah Woodcock are the right ages to be Richard and Elizabeth's 2 daughters of that name, though there seems to be no obvious reason why they should be entered up as Woodcock. Sussanah at least is really Susannah Bebbington [see her details on the attached file].

Elizabeth's age is really a bit young to be the one who married Richard Bebbington in 1809, but wrong ages are not uncommon in the Bebbingtons, and it is much more sensible in 1851
