William Bierman July 12, 2003

William Bierman, 81, of Johnstown passed away Saturday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Richland, NY, on March 29, 1922 he was the son of John and Eva Oldenburg Bierman. He grew up in Amsterdam and was a 1940 graduate of Amsterdam High School.

Mr. Bierman was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. 8th Army Air Force, serving as a crew chief in the European Theatre from 1942 to 1945.

He was employed with the March Central Labs of Utica for many years as a chemical salesman.

Mr. Bierman was the scout master of the Tribes Hill Boy Scouts Troop 34, a member of the Order of the Arrow and was the Amsterdam District Commissioner of Scouting for many years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Johnstown Lodge 1185 and was a member of the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hallam Bierman whom he married on March 10, 1945 in Leeds, England; a daughter, Linda Callahan and her husband, John of Gloversville; a sister, Mrs. Pat Timmons of Upland, CA; one granddaughter Erin Callahan of Nashua, NH; a grandson, Michael Callahan of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY.
