BISCHOFF, Charles Ferdinand 1820-1898


Born England, son of the artist and engraver F. R. Bischoff RA. Studied at the Royal Academy School, London. In 1855 arrived in Auckland on the Merchantman and set up in Wakefield Street for a short time as a portrait painter and art teacher before going farming in Waiuku. Mainly painted portraits and was a trained miniature painter. Served in the Waikato war with the Waiuku volunteers. Died in Waiuku. Represented in ACAG [Auckland City Art Gallery?].
