Divorce of Edward George and Katharine Alice Ricketts 1915/16

Katharine Alice Ricketts petitioned for divorce on grounds of Edward George Ricketts's "adultery coupled with cruelty towards the said Petitioner".

Katharine states that

"on many occasions in the course of the past six years the said Edward George Ricketts has committed adultery with a female first at Blackfriars then at Walworth the exact address and the name of such female are however unknown to your Petitioner"

"The said Edward George Ricketts has had a child by the said female".

"That upon several occasions the said Edward George Ricketts has used personal violence to your Petitioner causing her bodily harm. In particular on the 1st. day of September 1914 at 56 Goodwood Road New Cross the said Edward George Ricketts violently assaulted your Petitioner".

"That on or about the 15th. day of November 1914 the said Edward George Ricketts without cause or reasonable excuse deserted your Petitioner and from the time hitherto has deserted her".

"That the said Edward George Ricketts resides with the aforesaid female at the same address in Walworth which is unknown to your Petitioner and is domiciled in England. He is a Journeyman Hatter and is employed in the Army Ordnance Department Royal Woolwich Dockyard".

Custody of the six surviving children of the marriage is granted to Katharine.
