Marriage Certificate of Thomas Dewhurst and Mary Yewdall
29 April 1724


Whereas Thomas Dewhurst Son of Richard and Jennet Dewhurst late of Whalley in the County of Lancaster deceased & Mary Yewdall Daughter of Thomas Yewdall of Thornton in the parish of Bradford and County of York Clothier Having declared their Intention of taking Each other in Marriage at the particular and Monthly Meetings of the people of God called Quakers unto which they did belong Whose proceedings therein after a deliberate Consideration having Consent and Assent of parents & Relations Concern'd were allowed of by the said Meetings.

Now these are to Certifie all whom it may Concern that for the full Accomplishing of their said Intentions this twenty ninth Day of the second month call'd April in the Year according to the English Accst[?]. 1724 They the said Thomas Dewhurst and Mary Yewdal appeared in a publick Assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together at their publick Meeting place in Bradford aforesaid in the said County where he the said Thomas Dewhurst according to the Good and Ancient Example of the holy men of God recorded in the Scriptures of Truth taking the said Mary Yewdal by the hand declared openly as follows (vizt.) In the fear of the Lord and before you my Witnesses do I take this my ffriend Mary Yewdal to be my Wife promissing unto her to be a Loving and faithful Husband till Death or words to this Import - - - -

And then and there in the said Assembly the said Mary Yewdal having the said Thomas Dewhurst by the hand did in like manner declare as follows (vizt) ffriend In the fear of the Lord and before ye my Witnesses do I take this my ffriend Thomas Dewhurst to be my husband promising unto him to be a faithful and obedient Wife till Death or Words to this Import - - -

And the said Thomas Dewhurst and Mary Yewdal (now after the law & [NB bracket unclosed] Custom of marriage Mary Dewhurst as a further Confirmation and for the ratifying and Consummating of ye said Marriage have also herein subscribed their Name the Day and Year above said

And we whose Names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at ye Solemnizing of the said Marriage and Subscription in manner aforesaid as Witnesse hereunto have also Subscribed our Names in these presents the Day and Year above written
