In the 1861 census, there was a 'Deaths in 1860' column, in which Robert had recorded that 1 Male person, aged 21, had died of Consumption

Henry's birth in Halifax seems to indicate that Robert and Susan would have been married there.

Susan's burial record gives her birthplace as Nova Scotia, and Robert's regiment, the 34th, had been stationed at Halifax for some time, from at least April 1836 to the end of December 1837. Those dates would seem to indicate that Henry's age was a bit out.

Susan might have stayed on in NS until after Henry was born, but Robert would have to have been around to start things off.
