Prison Registers 1849

H.S. York To [Remove] ... [42 Names omitted] ... Thos. Murray, Ml. Forster [sic], Geo Benj Cowell & Jno Bracken to [the House of Corrn. at Wakefield there to remain 18 Months &c.] 7 Augt. 1848 [sic]

Keeper Ho Wakefield

To Receive the foregoing and Keep them 18 Mons. &c.

[The next entry is dated 10 August 1849]

NB - Despite the different spelling of Foster, I am fairly sure this is our Michael, as the name following his, Geo Benjn Cowell, was that of his accomplice in the 1849 burglary!

NB - The block of names for HS. York is preceded on the same page by blocks of names headed "Lancaster Contd.", "Mayor of Liverpool", and "HS Lincoln". I have not looked at the pages before this, but they appear to record a large movement of prisoners from other jails, to that at Wakefield.
