Sixty Eighth Regiment of Light Infantry

THESE are to Certify that Private William Foster born in the Parish of Leeds in or near the Town of Leeds in the County of York was enlisted at Leeds for the Aforesaid Corps on the 17th Jany. 1831. at the Age of 17 10/12 Years. That he has served in the Army for Fourteen Years, and Forty Six Days.

That he is discharged Free at his own request in consequence of Having Served Upwards of Fourteen years and having possession of One Good Conduct badge with pay Authority dated Horse Guards, April 17, 1845.

The Soldier's Character is to be inserted only when recommendatory; if the general conduct of a Soldier, whilst in the Service, has been such as to give him no claim to have any thing said in his favour, the space of Character in the above Certificate is to be cut off close under the black line following the confirmation of his Discharge, thereby leaving no opportunity for any addition to be made after the Certificate is given to the Man.

When a Soldier is discharged on account of disgraceful conduct, that will appear in the body of the Certificate.
