LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION
TO MATILDA MURIEL LAW wife of Frederick Horace Law of Christchurch Joiner one of the next-of-kin of the said Thomas Dutton Hatton Deceased.
WHEREAS the said Thomas Dutton Hatton lately departed this life intestate YOU are therefore fully empowered and authorised by these presents to administer the estate effect and credits of the said deceased and to demand and recover whatever debts may belong to his estate and pay whatever debts the said deceased did owe so far as such estate effects and credit extend YOU having been already sworn well and faithfully to administer the same and to exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all the estate effects and credits unto this Court on or before the 14th day of September next and also to file a true account of your administration thereof on or before the 14th day of June 1925 AND you are therefore by these presents constituted ADMINISTRATRIX of all the estate effect and credits of the said deceased.

TAKE NOTICE that application is hereby made to this Honourable Court by Mr. Sim of Counsel for Matilda Muriel Law wife of Frederick Horace Law of Christchurch Joiner for an Order granting leave to issue Letters of Administration of the estate effects and credits of the above-named Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased to the said Matilda Muriel Law a daughter of the said deceased UPON THE GROUNDS appearing in and by the Affidavits of the said Matilda Muriel Law and of Thomas Cureton Hatton also the Consent of the said Thomas Cureton Hatton all filed herein.

AFFIDAVIT IN SUPPORT OF MOTION FOR ORDER GRANTING LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION
I MATILDA MURIEL LAW wife of Frederick Horace Law of the City of Christchurch in the Provincial District of Canterbury and Dominion of New Zealand Joiner make oath and say as follows:-
1. THAT I knew Thomas Dutton Hatton late of Christchurch aforesaid Retired Musician now deceased when alive and that the said Thomas Dutton Hatton was resident or was domiciled at Christchurch within this Judicial District and that the nearest Registry Office of this Court to the place where the said Thomas Dutton Hatton resided or was domiciled is at Christchurch.
2. THAT the said Thomas Dutton Hatton died
at Christchurch aforesaid on or about the 19th
day of March 1924 as I am able to depose from having
been present at his funeral.
3. THAT the said deceased was my natural and lawful father and that he left him surviving the following children namely myself this deponent his daughter and two sons namely Thomas Cureton Hatton and John Dutton Hatton and both are of full age.
4. THAT my father the deceased was married once only and that his wife my mother predeceased him.
5. THAT the said John Dutton Hatton is at present an inmate of the Sunnyside Mental Hospital where he had been since the year 1919.
6. THAT the said Thomas Cureton Hatton has consented in writing to an order being made granting Letters of Administration of the estate and effects of the said deceased to me this deponent and which said consent will be duly filed herein.
7. THAT since the death of the said deceased I have had access to his papers and repositories and that I have searched diligently therein for any Will or Testamentary writing made or signed by the said deceased and that I have been unable to find any such Will or Testamentary writing.
8. THAT I have made enquiry of the solicitors who acted for the said deceased during his lifetime and of all persons likely to know if the said deceased had made or signed any Will or Testamentary writing and I am informed by the said solicitors that the said deceased duly made a Will in the year 1916 but which now cannot be found.
9. THAT the only bank account the said deceased had was with the Post Office Savings Bank.
10. THAT I do verily believe that the said deceased died intestate and that I am one of the next of kin of the said deceased.
11. THAT to the best of my knowledge information and belief the estate effects and credits of the said deceased to be administered by me are under the value of £550.
12. THAT I will exhibit unto the Court a true full and perfect inventory of all the estate effects and credits of the said deceased within three calendar months after the grant of Letters of Administration thereof to me and that I will file a true account of my administratorship within twelve calendar months after the grant of such Letters.
13. THAT the said Thomas Dutton Hatton was a British subject and was born in England and had not been at any time a subject of any foreign state or sovereign.
14. THAT I am a British subject and was born in New Zealand and have not been at any time a subject of any foreign state or sovereign.

I THOMAS CURETON HATTON of Lyttelton in the Dominion of New Zealand Printer being next of kin of the said Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased and being of full age DO HEREBY CONSENT to an Order being made granting Letters of Administration of the Estate and effects of the said deceased to my sister MATILDA MURIEL LAW wife of Frederick Horace Law of the City of Christchurch in the said Dominion Joiner.

I THOMAS CURETON HATTON of Lyttelton in the Provincial District of Canterbury and Dominion of New Zealand Printer make oath and say as follows:-
1. WE THOMAS CURETON HATTON of Lyttelton in the Provincial District of Canterbury and Dominion of New Zealand Printer and FREDERICK HORACE LAW of the City of Christchurch in the said Dominion Joiner severally make oath and say:-
1. THAT we are the proposed sureties on behalf of Matilda Muriel Law of Christchurch wife of the said Frederick Horace Law the Administratrix of the estate of the above-named Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased in the penal sum of £550 for her faithful administration of the said estate of the said deceased.
AND I the said Thomas Cureton Hatton for myself make oath and say:-
THAT I am after payment of all my just debts well and truly worth in real and personal estate the sum of £550.
AND I the said Frederick Horace Law for myself make oath and say:-
THAT I am after payment of all my just debts well and truly worth in real and personal estate the sum of £550.

KNOW ALL MEAN BY THESE PRESENTS that we MATILDA MURIEL LAW wife of Frederick Horace Law of the City of Christchurch in the Provincial District of Canterbury and Dominion of New Zealand Joiner and THOMAS CURETON HATTON of Lyttelton in the said Dominion Printer and the said FREDERICK HORACE LAW are held and firmly bound unto William Walters Samson Registrar of the Supreme Court for the said District at Christchuch in the sum of £550 for which payment well and truly to be made to the said William Walters Samson or to such Registrar for the time being we do and each of doth bind ourselves and each of us and the Executors and Administrators of us and of each of use jointly and severally firmly by these presents.
WHEREAS by Order of this Court of the 14th day of June 1924 IT IS ORDERED that Letters of Administration of the estate effects and credits of the said Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased be granted to the said Matilda Muriel Law upon her giving security for the due administration thereof in the sum of £550 AND WHEREAS the said Matilda Muriel Law has sworn that to the best of her knowledge information and belief the said estate effects and credit are under the value of £550. NOW THE CONDITION of the above written Bond is that if the above-bounden Matilda Muriel Law exhibits unto the Honourable Court at Christchurch a true and perfect inventory of the estate effects and credits of the deceased which shall come into the possession of the said Matilda Muriel Law or any other person by her order or for her use on or before the 14th day of September next and well and truly administers the same according to law and renders to this Court at Christchurch a true and just account of her said administratorship on or before the 14th day of June 1925 then this Bond shall be void and of no effect but otherwise shall remain in full force.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS and AFFIDAVIT VERIFYING SAME
I, MATILDA MURIEL LAW wife of Frederick Horace Law of Christchurch Joiner make oath and say:
1. THAT I am the administratrix of the estate and effect of the above-named Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased under and by virtue of Letters of Administration granted by this Honourable Court on the 14th day of June 1924.
2. THAT since the death of the said Thomas Dutton Hatton deceased I have had sole control and management of the said estate.
3. THAT the statement hereto annexed and marked "A" contains a true and correct account of all moneys belonging to the said estate received and disbursed by me as such administratrix as aforesaid also of all property held by me as such administratrix as aforesaid and of my administration of such property as from the date of death of the said deceased on the 19th day of March to 31st day of January 1926
4. THAT to the best of my knowledge information and belief the said statement is a full true and correct statement of all the property of which the said deceased was possessed at the date of his death.
