An old and well-respected citizen of Christchurch, Mr James Hiron, died at his residence, Worcester street, Linwood, at the end of last week. Mr Hiron, who was in his 81st year, was born at Cheltenham, England. He came to New Zealand 55 years ago and started a bakery business in Armagh street, later removing to Linwood, where he has been in business there at the same premises for over 50 years. He was the oldest master baker in Christchurch, and at the funeral, which took place at Avonside Churchyard, the bearers were members of the Master Bakers' Association. Mr Hiron leaves a widow and two daughters.
