Marriage of Amos Learoyd and Rachel Holmes 1769


Amos Learoyd of Horton Son of Amos Learoyd late of Horton aforesaid in the Parish of Bradford & County of Yorks Yeoman Deceased And Eleanor his Wife And Rachel Holmes Daughter of Thomas Holmes late of Denton in the Parish of Otley & County of York Yeoman & Rachel his Wife both Deceased, having Declared their Intentions of marriage before Several Meetings of the People called Quakers in the County of York aforesaid & the proceedings of the Said Amos Learoyd & Rachel Holmes after due Enquiry & Deliberate Consideration thereof were allowed by the Said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having Consent of his Mother & Relations concerned.

Now these are to Certify all whom it may Concern that for accomplishing of their Said Marriage this Second day of the Tenth mo: Called October in the Year 1769 they the Said Amos Learoyd & Rachel Holmes Appeared in a publick assembly of the aforesaid people & Others in their Meeting House at Bradford aforesaid and he the Said Amos Learoyd taking the Said Rachel Holmes by the hand did openly & Solemnly Declare as followeth Viz Friends in the fear of the Lord before this Assembly I take this my Friend Rachel Holmes to be my Wife Promising through Divine Assistance to be unto her a loving & faithful Husband untill it Shall please the Lord by Death to separate us And the Said Rachel Holmes did then & there in like manner declare as followeth, Friends in the fear of the Lord and before this Assembly I take this my Friend Amos Learoyd to be my Husband promising Through Divine assistance to be unto him a loving & faithful Wife until it Shall please the Lord by Death to Separate us Or words to that Effect. And the Said Amos Learoyd and Rachel Holmes as A farther Confirmation thereof and Testimony Thereunto did then & there to here presents Set their Hands.
