The Affairs of Mr. Nehemiah Learoyd

At the London Bankruptcy-court, yesterday, a meeting was held before Mr. Registrar Hazlite, for the public examination of Mr. Nehemiah Learoyd who, it will be remembered, recently carried on business at Albion Chamber, Moorgate-street, London, unsuccessfully contested Boston in the last general election, and, absconded after criminal proceedings had been instituted against him at Bow-street. At the first meeting debts to the amount of £15,409 15s. 5d. were put in, and Mr. John Brown, accountant, Holborn viaduct, was appointed trustee, with a committee of inspection. Mr. Tanner, on behalf of the official receiver, stated that no account had been filed, and nothing had been heard of the bankrupt. - His Honour adjourned the public examination sine die. In the report of the first meeting it was stated that the Yorkshire Banking Company, Huddersfield, were creditors for £1,750, holding security for £1,000. It should have appeared as "C.J. Mellor, Yorkshire Banking Company, Huddersfield, £1,750, security £1,000." the information was obtained for a statement of affairs prepared by the bankrupt before going away, and the mistake arose in treating Mr. Mellor as the representative of the bank instead of being the creditor.
