Apprentice Indenture of Earnest Alfred Mayersbeth

This Indenture made the second day of June
one thousand eight hundred and ninety three
Witnesseth That
Earnest Alfred Mayersbeth
of 19 Luscombe Street, Wandsworth Rd, London SE
in the County of Surrey
Son of
Robert Mayersbeth
by and with the consent and approbation of his father testified
by his executing these Presents, doth put himself Apprentice to
Edgar Wallace Wormald
of 23 Denman Street, Golden Square, W.
in the County of Middlesex
to learn the Art, Trade or Business of
Compositor
and with him after the manner of an Apprentice to serve from the
fifteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred ninety three until
the full end and term of five years from thence next following, fully to be complete
and ended. During which term the said Apprentice his Master faithfully shall serve, his
secrets keep, and his lawful commands obey;-he shall do no damage to his said Master or his
Goods, nor suffer it to be done by others, but shall forthwith give notice to his said Master of
the same, when necessary;-he shall not waste the Goods of his said Master, nor lend them
unlawfully to any; nor shall he do any act whereby his said Master may sustain any loss, with
his own Goods or others' during the said term;-without Licence of his said Master, he shall
neither buy nor sell during his Apprenticeship; nor shall he absent himself from his said
Master's service day or night unlawfully; but in all things as a faithful Apprentice shall behave
himself towards his said Master and others, during the said term. And the said
E.W.Wormald
will towards his said Apprentice in the Art, Trade, or
Business of Compositor
which he useth by the best means in his power teach and instruct or cause to be taught
and instructed; & the said
Edgar W. Wormald
will pay the said Apprentice the Wages following-that is to say
five shillings each week during the first year
six shillings each week during the second year
seven shillings each week during the third year
eight shillings each week during the fourth year
ten shillings each week during the fifth year
These presents shall be hand over to the said
Earnest Alfred Mayersbeth
on the completion of the said term, with a Certificate of such service endorsed thereon.
AND for the true performance of all and every of the said Covenants and Agreements the
said Parties bind themselves by these Presents. IN WITNESS whereof the said parties
have hereunto set their Hands and Seals the day and year first above written.
