HWT. CALARINA | 3/6/16 | Sailed from ALEXANDRIA. 9 am. Weather good. |
HWT. CALARINA | 8/6/16 | Trip so far been uneventful. Weather fine. health good. Semsiter? Hot the Transport is rather overcrowded, and the quantity of the food proved not sufficient, however, I complained promptly and things have been better since. Potatoes are of very inferior quality. arrived MARSEILLE 4.30 pm. |
MARSEILLE | 9/6/16 | Left MARSEILLE. for HAZEBROUCK at 5.30 pm. 14 men were sent to hospital sick. mostly colds. a few cases of Pneumonia before leaving 4 days Ration were drawn. It was a very satisfactory ration and included Butter. the men were entrained in ordinary cattle trucks. 30 to each truck, also half my Officers were forced to travel in the same way on account of there being no First Class Carriages available or that was the excuse. I consider it was faulty administration. |
BAILLOUL | 12/6/16 | arrived BAILLEUL 4.30 on Monday 12th inst. moved at 6 45 am to Billets at MORRIS. the Battalion is extended over about 1½ miles the Weather is very wet. and the men are in good health except for colds. |
MERRIS | 14/6/16 | No weather still continues very wet. a good number of the men are down with colds. So far we have had great difficulty in securing wood for burning. otherwise things are fairly comfortable. |
MERRIS | 21/6/16 | Visited Front line Trenches HOUPLINES 12st inst and removed there for two days. made a thorough enquiry into the system of defence and supply. the trenches are far too shallow in my opinion. also a lot might be done insecuring 'Communications Trenches' by placing an overhead 'Covering of Eum? Canvas', they could not then be observed from above. Dummy trenches could be made at other points. I feel sure this would mean a saving in men. A board assembled today to Inquire into the absence of 1305 L/cpl McLEOD. N. who has been absent Without leave since 1/6/16. He was found to be a deserter. |
MERRIS | 29/6/16 | Training is proceeding satisfactorily. Health fairly good. |
