12/11/1644 11th June, 1929. Mrs. D. L. Mayersbeth, 36 Grey Street, SOUTH FREMANTLE. W.A. Dear Madam, In letters dated the 21st November and 12th March an appeal was made to you to present to the War Memorial, for preservation in the National Collection, any records of general interest you may have received from the husband, the late Joseph William Mayersbeth. It was mentioned in these letters that private war records of this nature have a special historical value. Their preservation in the National Collections will not only be of assistance to historians but will help to perpetuate the memory of the soldier by whom they were compiled. Letters and diaries which deal with private family matters are of course not suitable and this appeal does not apply to them. But if you have any records of general interest, that is records in which your husband described in detail his military life, work, and experiences, it is earnestly hoped that you will at least permit copies or extracts to be made. The originals or the copies will be carefully preserved in the archives. Any conditions to control the use of them which you may see fit to impose will be respected. Awaiting the favour of an early reply, Yours faithfully Director.
