The 16th day of October 1899

The Petition of Robert Charles Mayersbeth of Number 81 Priory Grove Clapham in the County of Surrey Commission Agent showeth

1. That on the twenty fifth day of February 1888 your Petitioner was lawfully married to Rose Matilda Mayersbeth then Rose Matilda Jones at Saint Peter’s Church Vauxhall in the Parish of Lambeth in the County of Surrey

2. That since the said marriage your Petitioner has lived and cohabited with the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth at Number 6 Garden Cottages Lambeth and at High Street Lambeth and divers other places and there is issue of the said marriage now living five children namely Robert Charles Mayersbeth aged eleven years George Mayersbeth aged ten years Joseph Mayersbeth aged eight years Edward Mayersbeth aged six years and Percy Mayersbeth aged three years

3. That in December 1897 the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth was convicted of the manslaughter through wilful neglect of her infant child and was sentenced to nine months hard labour and after undergoing her sentence was released in September 1898

3. That your Petitioner has not lived or cohabited with the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth since the date of her said conviction

4. That the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth has during the months of January February March April May June July and August 1899 at 26 Ethelred Street Kennington Road and elsewhere committed adultery with Daniel Murdock

Amended provisional? to the Registrar’s Order dated 12th day of January 1900

5. That in the months of April May and June 1899 the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth committed adultery with divers men unknown to your petitioner and that on the second day of October 1899 the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth was at the Lambeth Workhouse delivered of a premature born male child (six months) of which your Petitioner is not the father

Your Petitioner therefore prays that your Lordship will be pleased to decree

1. That his marriage with the said Rose Matilda Mayersbeth may be dissolved

2. That he may have the custody of his children

3. That he may have such further and other relief as to your Lordship may seem ??

4. That the said co-respondent may be condemned in the costs of these proceedings
