The Respondent Rose Matilda Mayersbeth by Messrs. Stewart & Ainger her Solicitors in answer to the Petition as amended filed in this Cause Saith:-
1. That she denies all and every of the allegations set forth in the said Petition
2. That the Petitioner has treated the Respondent with great unkindness and cruelty for many years past and has frequently been guilty of violence to her by striking and kicking her
3. That on an occasion during the years 1893 or 1894 while living at 18 Broad Street Lambeth in the County of Surrey the Petitioner late at night when the Respondent was in bed broke up the Cot in which two of the Petitioners Children were sleeping and violently struck the Respondent about the body with the brasswork of the Cot.
4. That on an occasion during the years 1895 1896 or 1897 whilst living at 6 High Street Lambeth aforesaid the Petitioner struck the Respondent a violent blow in the face with his clenched fist blackening both her eyes and causing them to nearly close
5. That on another occasion during the years 1895 1896 or 1897 whilst living at 6 High Street Lambeth aforesaid the Petitioner knocked the Respondent down and kicked her
Wherefore the Respondent humbly prays
That your Lordship will be
pleased to reject the prayer of the
said Petition and Decree etc.
