Obituary 1893


AN OLD COLONIST. - Yesterday the funeral took place at Addington Cemetery of the late Mr Henry Paddy, whose death removes another of the early colonists of Canterbury. He arrived in Lyttelton by the ship Glentanner [sic] in October, 1857. In the following year he assisted in the formation of the Main North road through Woodend, and subsequently, under the Public Works Department, he worked in forming the Riccarton road, and also in building the Stanmore bridge. In 1866 Mr Paddy filled the position of messenger of the U.B.A. in Christchurch. He retired in 1882, and has since resided in Christchurch.
