Obituary 1893

OUR readers will regret to hear of the decease of Mr Henry Paddy, an old and respected colonist, who had been a resident in the district up till about 10 years ago. The deceased arrived m the Colony by the ship Glentanner m the year 1857, and after visiting several of our goldfields, settled down in Southbridge, in 1868, where he secured several little properties, and carried on the business of a baker and confectioner in his own premises, known as the 'Pioneer Bakery.' In 1882 he retired from business, after a very successful career, and lately has resided in Christchurch. Owing to a complication of disorders, Mr Paddy had not enjoyed good health for some time past, and on Sunday he passed quietly away, at his sister's residence, Ferry Road, Christchurch, at the age of 58 years. The deceased leaves a family of two sons, one of whom, Mr Frederick Paddy, still resides in Southbridge, carrying on the business of a saddler, &c., and the other son lives at Sydenham, where he also carries on business as a saddler. Only last week Mr Paddy was in Southbridge, and called at this office intending to see one of his shipmates, but whom he sorrowfully learnt had preceded him to the "unknown land" some 12 months previously. The funeral took place at Addington yesterday, and was attended by a large number of the friends and relatives of the deceased.
