I believe the most likely scenario would be that, after Elizabeth Pullan, probable wife of William b.1743, died in 1776, he eventually remarried to Ann Smith in 1788 (obviously because she was expecting), and Betty was the child of this 2nd marriage. The Ann baptised in 1748 would already be 40 by then, which would explain why they had no other children apart from Betty. There appears to be no other marriage of a William Pull*n to an Ann, which would result in the 1821 burial of Ann Pullan, 73, Wife of William Pullan of Browgate, who from his own death age appears to be William b.1743.

Alternatively, his son William b.1770 was Betty's father - perhaps a bit young to be marrying at 18, but Betty was born only 5 months later, so maybe forced to marry by parents. The only Ann Smiths baptised at Otley of anything like a suitable age to be marrying William b.1770 were baptised in 1764 and 1765. I cannot find a suitable Baildon burial of an Ann Pull*n, to match this sort of age.
