Sergeant Richard Henry Rutherford


Sergeant Richard Henry Rutherford (912), also born at Nhill and educated at Fremantle, was married on the 15th March, 1916, to Florence Attle, daughter of Adelaide and the late George Attle, and they have one child, Henry Rutherford. He enlisted December 28th 1915, and sailed June 6th, 1916, with the original 44th Battalion. He was in action at Messines and was wounded at Warneton 24th June, 1917. He rejoined his unit and participated in the Zonnbeke and Broodesinde engagements, and later on the Somme, where was wounded on the 28th March, 1918. He returned home on 5th February, 1919, and is now employed as engineer in the State Steamship Co.
