Carol's Will Be A Memory-Making Summer
What could be more exciting for a girl who's "going on seventeen" than a summer in Paris and London, with fascinating side trips 'round about the continent?
Carol Sanford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Sanford, Jr., is already "up in the air" about her jet airliner trip from New York to Paris on June 10. She will spend most of the summer with her grandmother, Mrs. Charles Mylles, and her aunt, Miss Jacqueline Mylles. And while Carol is keeping her grandmother company, her grandfather will be in Australia for a time. Enroute to Europe, he will stop in Sheffield to visit the Sanfords.
Carol is looking forward particularly to meeting the teenage children of her mother's friends in Paris. Mrs. Sanford grew up there, and her friends' children, already alerted, will no doubt keep Carol's date book filled with tea dances, swimming parties at the beaches and the "jazz hats" (jazz sessions) famous in Paris. French schools continue in session until the latter part of June. This will give Carol time to tour Paris with her grandmother.
They plan to visit all the places that Carol has been studying about at Sheffield High School, where she will be a junior in the fall. The Arc of Triumph, Notre Dame, The Louvre, and the Palace of Versailles are high on the list of things to see.
Her uncle, Ian Mylles, who visited her family in Sheffield during the early winter, has invited her to be his guest in London for a round of theatre and opera. At "The Old Vic" Carol will see "first hand" the Shakespearen plays she has been reading lately. She hopes to catch a glimpse of the Queen when she stands outside Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard.
About the middle of August Carol will be Alabama-bound, with memories to last a lifetime.

A "beforehanded" girl, Carol has already begun trying
to choose her
summer wardrobe to fit the 44 pound luggage limit. Judging from the time
it takes most girls to pack for a weekend, it will probably take the remaining
weeks before her trip to solve this important matter. Of course she will
leave room to bring back something from the Paris shops! Her toy French
poodle seems to be approving her choices. Delightful chore, n'est-ce pas?

Hmmm! How do you ask for a hamburger in French? Carol
is looking
over French phrase books to give her a start on the language. The birdseye
view of Paris on the aerial photographic map behind her has acquainted
Carol with the relative locations of the most
important places to see, so
she should make her way around Paris with real aplomb. She plans to climb
the Eiffel Tower at least once!
