Penalised Economy. - Alfred Skepelhorn, motor driver, Moreton, was summoned for not having proper lights on a motor car, at Ongar, on Jan. 21. - P.c. Drane said a motor car was standing outside the Budworth Hall without lights. Witness spoke to defendant, who said he was not ordered until 2.30 a.m., and he thought he would put the lights out. It was the night of a ball, and there was a lot of traffic about, making it dangerous for a car to be standing without lights. - Defendant pleaded guilty, and said he put his lights out because another car was standing without them. - The Chairman: You did it for the sake of economy, I suppose. - Fined 5s.
