Letter from George Smith to James Bain 1867

125 Church St

"Bains Estates"

Sir

We are prepared to divide the funds we have at present in hand, leaving the accounts open from future adjustment.

If you desire to join in this arrangement we will, on or after this day week, hand you a cheque for £43 - which added to the amount you have already had from the Estate, will be equal to about 15/- in the pound on your share. This week's delay is intended to allow of our obtaining a reply from each legatee.

I am Sir
For Self & Executor
Yours Truly

George Smith

Mr Jas Bain Junr.

P.S. I shall exercise my right to deduct the amount of my private account against you from the above sum.

Letter formerly in the possession of Mary Ann Bain (1878 - 1965)
