Allegations that they were caught redhanded attempting to break open a safe in a wooden office at a quarry near Chellow Dean were made against three Manningham youths, named Hector C. Burden, millhand, Chassun-street, Fred Tidswell, millhand, Fairfield-street, and Harry Lockett, Farfield-street, who were at Bradfrd yesterday committed for trial at the next City Quarter Sessions on a charge of office-breaking.
Dept.-Supt. Petty stated that a neighbouring farmer heard the sounds of hammering, and surprised the lads in their efforts to break open the safe with heavy hammers and a crowbar.
When he called them to come out, one of them said: "Shoot the ---; if you don't I will," and they made their escape, when he deemed it advisable to withdraw. They were tracel [sic] by the police, however, and charged said: "None of us got anything."
