NORTHCOTE MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

....

The election to fill the extraordinary vacancy occasioned by the retirement of Councillor T. L. Waters, a member for the North Ward of the town of Northcote, took place yesterday. There were only two candidaes in the field - Mr. J. L. Bagley, auctioneer, and Mr Herbert Tidswell, mason. The former had the suuport of the majority of the sitting councillors which secured him the votes of the diiectors of the local brick companies. His opponent, Mr. Tidswell, was strongly supported bv Councillor Pearl, who in his place at the council table has opposed the construction of private streets at the cost of property-owners, which streets are popularly known as "padlock streets." The number of votes on the roll is 382, of which 213 were recorded, Bagley receiving 114 and Tidswell 99. Mr. T. McLean the returning officer, therefore declared Mr. G. L. Bagley duly elected. Both candidates returned thanks to their supporters.
