This website states "This remains the one Pudsey church where we have not had direct access to the registers and therefore, the material is incomplete."
No clue is given as to where they obtained the information.
The register should have been handed to the Public Record Office in 1837, but it does not seem to be in their collection.
The father's name would be consistent with the fact that Samuel Upton tried hard to name a son James. His first son was given this name, and after he died aged 11, the next son born was given the name.
Also consistent with the known family, is that when James Upton died in 1809, he was said to be resident at Littlemoor, which is where the family lived for several decades, before and after that time.
The birth of Samuel is a few years earlier than suggested by later records, but that would not be unusual.
