Marriage of Samuel Whiteley and Eleanor Learoyd 23 March 1773


Samuel Whiteley Son of Saml. Whiteley of Ladywell in the Parish of Halifax & County of York Shalloon maker & Sarah His wife, And Eleanor Learoyd Daughter of late Amos Learoyd Oaks in the Parish of Bradford and County aforesaid Clothier and Eleanor His Wife Both Deceased, Having Declared their Intentions of taking each Other in Marriage before Several meetings of the People called Quakers in the County of aforesaid And the proceedings of the Said Samuel Whiteley and Eleanor Learoyd after due Enquiry and deliberate Consideration thereof were allowed by the Said meeting, they appearing Clear of all Others, and having Consent of Parents and Parties Concerned.

Now these are to Certify all whom it may Concern that for Accomplishing of their said Marriage This Twenty third day of the third month Called March in the Year 1773 They the said Saml. Whiteley & Ellenor [sic] Learoyd appeared in a Publick assembly of the aforesaid People & Others met in their Meeting House at Halifax aforesaid & He the Said Saml. Whiteley taking the Said Eleanor Learoyd by the hand did openly and Solemnly Declare as followeth Friends in the fear of the Lord & before this Assembly I take this my Friend Eleanor Learoyd to be my Wife Promising Through Divine Assistance to be unto Her A loving & Faithful Husband until Death Or words to that Effect And the Said Eleanor Learoyd did then & there in the Said Assembly in like manner Declare as followeth, Friends in the fear of the Lord and before this Assembly I take this my Friend Saml. Whiteley to be my Husband Promising through Divine Assistance to be unto Him a loving and Faithful wife until Death or words to this Import And the Said Saml. Whiteley and Eleanor Learoyd as A farther Confirmation thereof and in Testimony thereunto did then and there to these presents Set their Hands.

We whose Names are hereunto Subscribed being Present among Others at the Solemnizing of the above said Marriage and Subscription in nanner aforesaid as Witnesses have also to these presents Subscribed Our Names the day & year above expressed?
