FIRES IN THE METROPOLIS


About four o'clock on Monday morning a fire, accompanied by fatal results, broke out at the Rising-Sun public-house, in Mitcham-road, Lower Tooting, and occupied by Mr. T. Weaver, victualler, the origin of which is at present unknown, the house, containing sixteeen rooms, and an assembly-room adjoining, about forty-five feet by twenty-five feet, were burned out, and roofs destroyed. Three men, named R. Smith, Richard Butting, and T. Porter, and a man who name is unknown were burned to death. The contents of Avon-villa adjoining, occupied by Mr. W. Wombill, were also damaged.
