Notes
I did know of the Lincolnshire connection because Florence and Alice had 3 cousins who were brought up in Grimsby (not far from Louth) by the name of Briggs - George, Fred and Alice. I met Fred once and Alice (known as Cousin Alice to distinguish her from Aunt Alice) several times, but I got to know George and his wife Norah well while I was at Cambridge because they lived there and George was then Emeritus Professor of Botany. (The contrast between George, a Cambridge Professor, and Fred, a Grimsby dockworker, was the greatest I have ever encountered between two brothers, yet in appearance they were similar.)
