Obituary

Mr. Henry Langberg, a well-known and prominent resident of the Lucindale and Conmurra districts for a number of years, who had latterly lived at Narracoorte, died at his residence, Narracoorte, on November 11, at the age of 81 years. He was born at the Burra, where he spent his youthful days. In 1871 he married Miss Martha Bastad [sic], and they spent the early part of their married life on the Coorong, where he was employed, as overseer for the Adelaide Road Board. In 1883 he took up land in the Conmurra district, and followed farming and grazing and was also engaged occassionally in contracting. He was a member of both the Robe and Lucindale District Councils, and rendered good service on these bodies. Mr. Langberg took an active part in public affairs generally, and interested himself in political questions for the welfare of the district. About five years ago he went to reside in Narracoorte, and spent the rest of his life there. Although his sight became impaired with the past couple of years, he retained all his other faculties and activities of mind till the end. His death marks the passing of another the pioneer settlers of the Lucindale and Conmurra districts. His wife predeceased him, and he leaves eight daughters, three sons and fifteen grandchildren.
