Herbert and his wife May eventually moved from Edmonton to Victoria BC, and then to Vancouver BC. He had a stroke whilst at Vancouver Airport waiting to fly to Edmonton for Christmas, and he died shortly afterwards. He was cremated and his ashes buried in the Fraser Cemetery in Vancouver. Many years later, after his wife May Gertrude (Knowles) died, their ashes were put into the grave of her parents.
His wife May is commemorated on the same stone as him, though their ashes are all with her parents.
