In the 1871 Census he is described as the son of Benjamin Laycock, but given his age and his "mother's" age this is unlikely.

Most likely he is the son of Ann Wormald, who is "Housekeeper" to George Harrison who lived at 15 Dover Street in 1861 and is "adopted" by Benjamin Laycock.
